Intersection of Traditional Indigenous Values with the Game of Golf
Wood Buffalo Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD)
The Wood Buffalo Junior Golf Program will incorporate our instruction based on the principles of Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD), as modelled in the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) and the PGA of America’s American Development Model (ADM). To develop the best golfers in the long term, we incorporate age-appropriate activities to include conditioning and “near-golf” experiences.
We will be setting up a special area for Junior Golfers to experience this new style of instruction. This area will include activities that are not traditionally considered to be a part of golf instruction, including unique stations, from “ladder runs”, hurdles, ball tosses, to Snag Golf. All of these activities are scaled to your child’s chronological and developmental age, with the goal to help them develop their potential as a golfer and keep him engaged with golf over the long term.
We look forward to helping your junior achieve their full potential.
Parent Commitment
Assistance from parent’s supervision is crucial to the success of the program.
To ensure the success of the program, we need parents to do the following:
Parents or a chaperone will travel with the junior golfer from your home community (if camp-provided daily transportation is not provided directly from your community). All participants must have a parent or chaperone who will supervise the child at all times that they are not present at the camp.
Parents or a chaperone will have the junior golfers report to the appropriate Coordinator on time and at the appropriate location.
When assisting, parents will emphasize safety, advise junior golfers of proper etiquette and sportsmanship. Please refrain from coaching unless directed to by a member of our Professional Staff.
Dress Code
We ask that you ensure that your junior golfer follows the dress code, as it applies to all golfers of all ages. Please send your junior golfer wearing shorts or pants, a shirt and we recommend socks and closed-toe running shoes.
Please have your child bring a sweater/hoodie/jacket for golf, indoor shoes, and athletic wear to all 3-days of the camp.
A golf shirt and hat will be provided to all junior golfers.
The following clothing does NOT fall within acceptable attire: jeans, spaghetti tank tops, fishnet shirts (like jerseys), strapless tops and flip flops.
If you have specific questions, about the dress code, please please call 780-598-3385 or email brittany.kozak@atcfn.ca
